Fall in Love with Creativity Again.
Autumn is already here—how did that happen?! I might be biased, but fall is absolutely one of my favorite times of year. The air gets that crisp, cool feeling. We pull on our coziest sweaters. The scent of cinnamon and woodsmoke fills the air. I personally love pulling out some of my favorite cookie recipes and making them to give to my friends as gifts at the start of the holiday season. Beyond being a chapter that represents preservation, comfort, letting go, and most of all, change, it’s also the start of a new round of community events that invite us to get even more creative.
I personally tend to get a little introspective during this time because it’s also my birth season. So right before the official holiday stretch kicks off, I tend to reflect on the past year: what I'd like to change and where I could be better. This is where a little creative outlet can be so helpful. Taking the time to make something with your hands—whether it's a simple drawing or a cozy candle—can be a form of self-care. It's a way to quiet the mind, stay present, and express yourself without pressure. As I've always believed, a little daily creativity can go a long way.
“As long as autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas, and colors enough to paint the beautiful things I see”
Inspired by the beauty all around us, these five projects are designed to be more than just crafts. They're an invitation to slow down, to notice the small details, and to create something just for the joy of it. Whether you're making a gift for a friend or a little piece of art for yourself, these activities are about finding a moment of calm and a bit of magic in the everyday.
So let's get into it! Here are Five Fun and Creative Fall-Themed Projects you can do alone or with friends:
1. Leaf Print Postcards: Collect some fallen leaves, paint one side with acrylics or watercolors, and press them onto cardstock or blank postcards. Add a seasonal message and send it to a friend—or hang it up as a piece of mini art!
2. Autumn Color Collage: Create a mood board using magazine clippings, fabric scraps, or painted paper in warm fall tones (rust, mustard, sage, plum). Use the prompt "What does this time of year mean to me?" to guide your creation.
3. DIY Cinnamon & Clove Candles: Use tealight molds or small jars to pour wax and stir in cozy scents like cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Decorate the containers with pressed leaves or a handmade label.
4. Fall Nature Journals: Bind a few pages together or use a small notebook to create your own seasonal journal. Add sketches of leaves, write down poems, tape in pressed flowers, or include a "gratitude leaf" each day.
5. Painted Pumpkin Portraits: Skip the carving and go wild with acrylic paints or collage on mini pumpkins. Try painting self-portraits, abstract patterns, or even "pumpkin muses" for a playful twist.
Whatever you choose to create this fall, remember that the most beautiful part of the process is the connection it brings—to yourself, to nature, and to the people you share it with.
